The E30 BMW has always been a personal favourite of our directors and a few years back after visiting some classic car auctions it became a mission to find an E30 which we regarded as being a future classic. We were extremely disappointed at the condition of genuine UK cars being offered for sale at these auctions – the quality not good but price unbelievably strong. We had a history of importing many European / British cars back from Japan – most notably the Rover Mini where general usage and climate conditions offered far superior condition than similar aged UK cars. The problem with finding a BMW E30 in Japan was that back around this time official right hand drive cars were extremely rare. The BMW Japan dealer network was very small. The majority of BMW’s sold in Japan around this era were actually left hand drive independent / grey imports. We initially wanted a 325i Sport 2 door – but soon realised that this was going to be an almost impossible mission.
